Here are our camshafts from Cat Cams for VOLKSWAGEN Golf 1 and 2 1.5 to 2.0 8v 1972-1986

Description :

The camshaft from Cat Cams will allow you to considerably increase the performance of your vehicle.

When a vehicle needs to receive extensive mechanical preparation to obtain decent results and, above all, a significant range of progression, work on the camshafts becomes inevitable.

When preparing the Cat Cams camshaft, two changes are observed: the valve lift and the opening angle.

Valve lift allows the length and angle of the valve to be changed, allowing less or more air to enter the combustion chamber.

You should know that more air entering therefore modifies the air/fuel mixture in the cylinders which increases the power at high revs.

Also, the greater the valve opening angle, the more the air flow increases, which promotes the air/fuel mixture and therefore more power.

Therefore, for use in competition, leisure, circuit and other, the revs will be more direct, the character of your engine will be more aggressive and thus you will benefit from a better range of use which will become a real asset.

Without touching on the subject of driving pleasure which will increase your sensations tenfold.

Camshaft profile available for VOLKSWAGEN Golf 1 and 2 1.5 to 2.0 8v 1972-1986

Sports profile :

  • Cat Cams camshaft reference: 7640293/C / Opening 0.1mm, intake 272°, exhaust 272° / Opening 1.0mm, intake 236°, exhaust 236° / Max lift intake 11.00mm, exhaust 11.00mm / Lift at TDC intake 2.10mm, exhaust 2.10mm / Full opening intake 110°, exhaust 110°.

Camshafts to be used with stock cam followers (35mm) and clearance adjustment shim (31mm) between cam follower and cam lobe - racing cam followers cannot be used in these engines Valve to piston clearance must be at least 1.0mm: - check 5-15° after TDC on intake - check 5-15° before TDC on exhaust. Machine pistons if necessary. Incorrect installation can cause serious engine damage! WHEN USING STD VALVE SPRINGS it is necessary to check the linkage lengths of the individual coils. In most engines these camshafts will work with stock valve springs. However, the linkage lengths of the individual valve springs vary by up to 1mm, so in some engines maximum valve lift can be critical. Additionally, different valve and valve spring configurations were used. Original valve spring information is not available Different valve spring configurations were used in original engines: please check measurements and contact Catcams if in doubt. ONLY for 8mm valves with triple groove (MK-8H valve carriers).

Rally and circuit profile:

  • Cat Cams camshaft reference 7640296/C / Opening 0.1mm, intake 296°, exhaust 296° / Opening 1.0mm, intake 260°, exhaust 260° / Max lift intake 12.50mm, exhaust 12.50mm / Lift at TDC intake 3.90mm, exhaust 3.90mm / Full opening intake 108°, exhaust 108°. Please note modifications required : pulley reference CCR3232, upper cup reference 99314, outer spring reference PAC-E99859, inner spring reference PAC-I99859.

Camshafts to be used with stock cam followers (35mm) and clearance adjustment shim (31mm) between cam follower and cam lobe - racing cam followers cannot be used in these engines. FOR COMPETITION APPLICATIONS ONLY. The following details must be checked: - Camshafts must rotate smoothly in the cylinder head, ensure free travel by machining where necessary - Valve seal to retainer clearance at full lift must be at least 0.6mm - A minimum valve spring travel of 1.0mm at full lift must be provided - Valve to piston clearance 1.0mm (pref. 1.5mm). Check 5-15° BDT on exhaust, and after TDC on intake. For use ONLY in competition engines with independent engine management (throttle position sensor) or carburettors. If necessary, machine the cylinder head and/or use solid shims to adjust the spring load. ONLY for 8mm valves with triple groove (MK-8H valve carrier).

  • Cat Cams camshaft reference 7640297/C / Opening 0.1mm, intake 304°, exhaust 304° / Opening 1.0mm, intake 268°, exhaust 268° / Max lift intake 13.00mm, exhaust 13.00mm / Lift at TDC intake 4.65mm, exhaust 4.65mm / Full opening intake 106°, exhaust 106°. Please note modifications required : pulley reference CCR3232, upper cup reference 99314, outer spring reference PAC-E99859, inner spring reference PAC-I99859.
