  • Why are there so many holes in a drilled disc?

The number of holes in a disc is determined by engineering. Zimmermann did extensive calculations and tests regarding the number of holes, their size, positioning and chamfer. This attention to detail is really what sets Brembo apart from its competitors in the braking world. The number of holes in a disc is in part a function of the disc size and internal aeration with ventilated discs.
  • Why use a drilled or grooved disc?

Drilling or grooving helps discs in different ways:
The edges of the grooves or holes continuously clean and ventilate the pad surface, while providing bite enhancement. In addition, they prevent the formation of gas between the disc and the pad. The disc is thus also lightened, reducing its inertia in rotation.
  • What are the advantages of drilled and grooved discs?

The main advantages of grooved and drilled discs are the same: increase braking bite, and improve the cooling of the disc-pad contact surface. Drilled discs have the advantage of being lighter and of cooling the surface better. However, too aggressive pad materials are not compatible with drilled discs. For use on a circuit, we recommend the use of grooved discs.

Zimmermann is the only German manufacturer to offer such a wide range of more than 320 different references, which are provided with an "ABE" signifying the general approval license granted by the Federal Automobile Agency.

Note that for all sports version brake discs, provided with an “ABE” label from the German “TÜV Nord” technical control, numerous driving tests were carried out on the Hockenheim circuit.
