The oil collector is used to prevent oil vapors from entering the intake manifold and clogging the intake valves of direct injection engines. Oil deposits on the intake manifold and valves lead to reduced performance, poor fuel consumption, and can damage the intake "flaps" which are very fragile on this engine.
