TRW is an American company founded in 1901 whose activities are centered on the defense sector but also extend to the automobile manufacturing and the aerospace sector.

In 1999, TRW bought the English group Lucas, one of the leaders in the automotive and aeronautic spare parts market. This acquisition, which doubles the size of its automotive branch, sharply increases its debt, forcing it to resell some of its activities. In 2000, Lucas Diesel was acquired by Delphi Corporation.

In 2002, TRW was acquired by the company "Northrop Grumman" following a hostile takeover bid of 7.8 billion US dollars. Northrop-Grumman retains the defense activity. The automotive branch TRW Automotive Holdings inherited from the acquisition of Lucas is sold to the Blackstone group.

TRW Aeronautical Systems, also a former branch of Lucas, is taken over by Goodrich Corporation.
