The thermal switch is a probe used to monitor the temperature of pressurized liquids.

They are used to trigger the cooling circuit fan a little earlier to allow a lower operating range and therefore a much faster cooling of the engine radiator.

The thermostat, also called calorstat, is an element of the cooling system that allows temperature regulation in the cooling circuit.
