MacPherson strut front suspension setup on VAG Group A5 platform cars (such as Golf 5, 6, Scirocco, A3, S3, Leon, Octavia) is a common design. Although a popular choice for manufacturers, due to its simplicity and low manufacturing cost, the standard design has some drawbacks when it comes to high performance applications.

First of all, there is almost no freedom to be able to set the geometry perfectly, which as we know from our racing program is absolutely essential for the handling of VAG Group A5 platform cars.

The other downside for high performance use is that since this layout tends to transmit road noise and vibration directly into the body, manufacturers must add additional noise reduction and isolation mechanisms. In other words, lots of movement in the stock soft rubber bushing controlling the lower control arm.
